Tannu Dilli will Show You an Actual Delhi Boy: Malvika Nigam

Directing a film on a Delhi boy was always in my bucket list. I feel that Delhi’s people are something different, the way people live there and their accent has a lifelong impression. When I was a teenager I always demanded from my parents to allow me to travel to Delhi, but they never allowed me to do so because of the crime rates in the capital. “Tannu Dilli” is a brilliant story with hilarious comic scenes;

Bharat Singal will be seen playing the character of “Tannu” in the film. Being a typical Delhi Boy Bharat Singal really helps me in presenting the character of Tannu.

“Tannu Dilli” the title sounds quite different and says a lot about the film. Is this a story of a dilli boy? Yes definitely it’s a story of a Delhi boy as the character Tannu is like “Jo khade khade logo ki utar deta hai”. He is someone who cannot be described in words; it can be shown cinematically only. Since my childhood the image I have in my mind for a delhi boy and when I spent time with delhi’s guys it was way beyond my imagination, and that insisted me to think “sach me Ese log exist karte hai yaar Dilli Me” (Laughs).

As per you which factors of a film create curiosity in audience? No one would want to make a flop film as you can never judge the audience, they might like songs, they might like its star cast, trailer, dialogue and too many things. As a director I always want to show what I visualise, because sometimes aap kuch esa dikhate ho jo audience ne kabhi imagine nahi kia hota and it becomes rare, though it is very risky and it may spoil your image as well but Creativity is the main weapon of a director so I think I should at least try not to copy and make a product which can entertain all kind of audiences.

Why do you think Bharat Singal is best choice for “Tannu Dilli” Actually Bharat Singal is not the best choice; he is the only choice I have. Apart from his acting, his sarcasm, and the level of punches he throws, doesn’t matter a group of people know him or not but he leaves a question in everyone’s mind that “Bhai kya Banda hai yaar ye”. As an actor I have seen his skills on the sets of film ‘Who is The First Wife Of My Father’ and he was in Bhaag Milkha Bhaag also, so he was in my mind since then and during the discussion of a scene from ‘Tannu Dilli’ he acted just one scene and added his own dialogue in the act “Dilli walon ki ragon me 2 khoon daudte hai..ek baap ka or dusra Dilli ka” and I was like oh god..you are the one who would rock the movie. He left me with no option. Ok I got it.. Full stop (Laughs)…!!
